本週我們來學習與熱鬧街區相關的詞彙

1. sizzle /'sɪz(ə)l/

v. (熱油、脂肪等)發出噝噝聲

e.g. The bacon sizzled in the hot pan, filling the kitchen with a delicious aroma.

e.g. Vendors lined the alley, selling sizzling lamb skewers.

e.g. The market is full of energy, with the sizzling of food being cooked and the aroma of spices drifting through the air.

補充:skewer 肉串

2. vendor /'vendə/

n. 小販;攤販

e.g. The vendors lined up on both sides of the alley, shouting out their specials to attract customers.

e.g. She bought a handmade bracelet from a local vendor at the fair.

補充:bracelet 手鍊;手串

v. vend 售賣[比較正式,口語中常用sell]

e.g. The machinevendssnacks 24/7.

補充:vending machine: a machine that automatically dispenses items 自助售賣機

e.g. The school installed a new vending machine with healthier snack options.

3. chatter /ˈtʃætɚ/

n.閒聊;閒扯

e.g. The chatter of the crowd filled the bustling market.

e.g. The quiet evening was broken by the excited chatter of children playing outside.

v. 喋喋不休地說:閒聊

搭配:chatter(on / away) about

e.g. I tried to get a word in, but he just chattered on without pause.

She chattered away excitedly about her new job.

v. 鳥鳴叫,啁啾;(動物)唧唧叫,吱吱叫

e.g. Birds were chattering somewhere.

注:與chat 區別

chat: 幾個人輕鬆友好地聊天

chatter: 說話快、碎、連續不斷;含有輕微貶義;也指很多人說話的聲音,像背景噪音。

e.g. We chatted about the movie.

e.g. The children chattered excitedly after class.

4. bustling /'bʌsliŋ/

adj. 熱鬧的;熙熙攘攘的

e.g. The bustling street market was alive with vendors shouting and customers bargaining.

e.g. The café was bustling with people chatting and laughing on a sunny afternoon.

補充:bargain v. 討價還價

syn. lively; vibrant 熱鬧的;有活力的

e.g. The market was lively, with vendors calling out and children playing.

e.g. The market was vibrant, with colorful stalls and decorations everywhere.

n. bustle 繁忙;熱鬧

搭配:hustle and bustle 喧鬧;繁忙

e.g. After living in the countryside for years, thehustle and bustleof downtown felt overwhelming.

5. chocoholic /ˌtʃɑːkəˈhɑːlɪk/

n. 吃巧克力有癮的人;嗜食巧克力的人

e.g. I’m a bit of a chocoholic, so I can never resist eating a bar of chocolate after dinner.

e.g. You could say I’m a chocolate lover or even a chocoholic – I can’t get enough of sweets!

近義補充:a chocolate lover 喜歡吃巧克力的人

have a sweet tooth 喜歡吃甜食

e.g. To be honest, I don’t really have a sweet tooth. Sweet foods like chocolate and cake are a bit too fattening for me, so I try to avoid them.
