外國人說I didn’t get the memo，不是我沒有收到備忘錄？

Laura和同事們參加一個客戶Party。Party開始了，外國同事Terresa走進現場時，發現會場裡大家都盛裝打扮，只有自己很隨意，穿條牛仔褲，尷尬地看看大家，又看看自己，Terresa說：“Oh, I guess I didn’t get the memo!”

Laura覺得納悶，這時候談memo，是什麼呢？

1.I didn’t get the memo!

（Ｘ）我沒有收到備忘錄。

（Ｏ）看來（要這麼盛裝）只有我不知道。

Memo這個字，職場中大家都應該很熟悉，是「備忘錄」，源自拉丁語的 “memorandum” ，意思是「應該被記住的事情」，指「備忘錄、備忘便條」。除了正式場合之外，"memo" 也常用於非正式的語境，特別是在口語中。可以是任何形式的提醒或信息，甚至是對自己的提醒。

"Get the memo" 的memo並不是指真的一張便條，指「收到了訊息」。通常用於指「知道了一個大家都應該知道的事情」。例如，現在流行螢光綠，你今天就剛好穿上了這流行色，有人可能會對你說：

．Oh, you got the memo!　噢，你跟上這個趨勢了！

如果有一個人還在做過時的事情，有人會說：

．He didn't get the memo.　他沒跟上趨勢。

前面Terresa說的“I didn’t get the memo”，表示她不知道要這樣盛裝，用didn’t get the memo顯得輕鬆一點化解了尷尬。

．“She showed up in jeans. Clearly she didn’t get the memo that it was a formal event.”她穿了牛仔褲來，顯然不知道這是個正式活動。

又例如，如果辦公室裡，大家都改變了工作流程，而你還是按照舊的方式工作，你可以說：

．"I guess I didn't get the memo about the new process."　我想我不知道流程改了呢！

．"I didn't get the memo about the new office rules." 我不知道公司的這些新規則。

2.Pass the memo

“Pass the memo”通常指「傳遞重要信息」，特別是在工作環境中。例如：

．Please pass the memo to the rest of the team. 請把這個信息傳達給其他團隊成員。

3.Memo to self

（Ｘ）給自己寫備忘錄

（Ｏ）自我提醒

這是指給自己做的提醒，通常是在記錄一個應該記住的事情。例如：

．Memo to self: Don’t forget to bring the documents to the meeting.”給自己的提醒：別忘了帶文件去開會。
