義大利西西里島埃特納火山（Mount Etna）2日發生劇烈爆發，義大利政府指出，火山噴出了大量高溫氣體、火山灰和熔岩，噴發高度高達數公里，遠在40至50公里外的城市陶爾米納和卡塔尼亞都能聽到火山噴發產生的爆炸聲，還有網友拍下火山噴發時遊客瘋狂逃命的畫面，場面相當驚悚。
