Today, we’d like to introduce you to a special “line” — the Central Axis of Beijing.
On July 27, 2024, at its 46th session, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee officially added the “Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” to the World Heritage List.
Originally laid out in the 13th century and completed by the 16th, the Central Axis has evolved over centuries into the longest urban axis in the world, stretching 7.8 kilometers.
Today, this grand urban scroll continues to unfold along the Central Axis. With a history of over 700 years, the axis connects not only past and present, but also China and the world. Since the implementation of China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy last year, more and more international visitors are coming to Beijing to explore the Central Axis and experience the vitality of modern China.
